Native Blessings
Add a touch of Native Colorado tradition
to your wedding celebration.
For thousands of years the Indigenous people of Colorado have blessed their marriages with beautiful ceremonies. Leon brings these traditions to life for your special day. His Native American ancestry gives these sacred traditions unique authenticity. These blessings are just one way that Leon helps you create the perfect wedding day.
Sage Blessing
Ancient blessing using specially prepared sage sticks or "smudge" sticks symbolically removing any un-needed elements from the bride and groom before their vows unite them. It signifies the blessing of the love that brought them together and strengthens this bond. The sage stick burns with a pleasing scent and the Celebrant fans the smoke around the Bride and Groom with an Eagle feather fan while asking the spirits to bless them in their new life together. The entire wedding party can be blessed as well if the wedding couple wishes.
Navajo Wedding Vase
A beautiful vase with two necks and one body symbolizes the marriage of two people sharing one life. The Celebrant prepares a sweet liquid in the vase and the Bride and Groom drink from it at the same time. This can be compared to the unity candle ceremony. The liquid is sweet and clear (in case of a little spill). This portion of the ceremony can be done before or after the exchange of the rings or the vows.
Four Directions
The Four Directions Ceremony honors the ancestors and all living things in creation and asks them to bless us in the journey ahead. We begin by facing East and then South, West and North. Each direction signifies the passage of time and the growth of a marriage. A special blessing is prepared for each direction. The bride and groom can choose to make this their wedding vows.
